Monuments And Melodies by Incubus
A greatest hits compilation of Incubus with two new songs as bookends. You really can't go wrong with these 15 tracks chronicling the Make Yourself-era to the present date. As a fan of their older material, there is a bit of a let down not to see any material from their first three albums especially from S.C.I.E.N.C.E. but given that the band found more success in the years after that album, it makes sense not to include it.
If you're sad about this, there is a bonus, two in fact. Not only is it a greatest hits but there's a second disc of rarities, soundtrack cuts and unreleased songs. That, alone, is worth the price of purchase as there are some excellent songs that never found their way to any of the albums (domestically, anyway). In conjunction with the release, the band has created The Vault. The Vault is an ever growing collection of live performances, rare and unreleased tracks, videos and photos collected of the band from the beginning. With each purchase of Monuments And Melodies, you will receive a code to download or view/listen to material from The Vault.
For new fans or the curious, it's a great place to begin with Incubus. Two new songs and 13 great singles will be enough to convince you to buy any of their albums. For the longtime fans, you'll get two new songs, both of which are really good, a second disc of rare and unreleased tracks and access to an ever building collection of various songs and performances throughout the band's career. That's not bad at all and this week, it's on sale for $9.99. I'd say that's an excellent pick of the week.
