Chromeo and Mayer Hawthorne For Two Nights At House Of Blues

There are very few concerts that I would ever call perfect date concerts as concerts tend to be loud and, often, far from romantic. This concert, however, will be the moment where dancing, love, romance and incredible music all come together for one unforgettable night. Furthermore, when the night involves Mayer Hawthorne and Chromeo, it is hard to imagine anything but meeting the love of your life that night somewhere between the throwback 70's era soul groove of Hawthorne and the modern meets retro electro-funk of Chromeo.

Hawthorne's debut, A Strange Arrangement, was a respectable affair gathering favorable reviews for its overall sound and production with tracks like "Just Ain't Gonna Work Out" and "A Strange Arrangement" providing modernist takes on the classic radio sounds of The Miracles and The Sylistics. Chromeo, meanwhile, released Business Casual, a collection of tracks that leaned more toward an 80's era electro-funk sound than usual and featured a guest contribution from Solange Knowles as well as the incessantly catchy video and single for "Don't Turn the Lights On."

Recently, both acts have kept themselves busy. Hawthorne recently released a free covers EP entitled Impressions featuring his takes on classics from The Isley Brothers, Electric Light Orchestra and tour mates, Chromeo, as well as finishing and road testing tracks from his forthcoming sophomore release, How Do You Do (due October 25). As for Chromeo, the majority of this year has found the duo promoting their recent record on the road and performing the newer material as well as classic jams such as "Bonafied Lovin" and "Tenderoni."

On September 30 and October 1, both acts will grace the House of Blues for a night romance, dancing and sounds that hearken back to a time when roller rinks were filled, there was a cassette player in every car and denim jackets were not hipster chic or ironic. Indivually, Chromeo and Mayer Hawthorne are two well studied, talented acts but together, their sounds and sets complement each other well. On at least one of those nights, you should be at the House of Blues especially if you happen to be single as I am pretty certain that your soulmate will be less than 10 feet away showing you her "Fancy Footwork." A bit cheesy, I know, but this is going to be a show definitely worth seeing.
